With an evident openness to any topics related to the 500th anniversary figure Manuel Álvares, the following thematic sections are planned:
The Jesuit from Ribeira Brava, Manuel Álvares, S.J.: the man, his work, and the culture of his time;
Manuel Álvares, S.J., the humanist, the teacher, the rector (in Lisbon, Coimbra, and Évora), and the religious;
The literary production of Manuel Álvares, S.J.: linguistic, didactic, poetic, and oratorical works;
The work of Manuel Álvares and the educational policy of the Society of Jesus in the first century of its existence;
De institutione grammatica libri tres (1572, 1573) and its worldwide impact from the 16th to the 20th centuries;
Controversial aspects concerning the Alvaresian grammar and the Jesuit teaching.
On June 4th, it will include a bus tour with a local guide to explore the North and West sides of the island.
